The Introduction of the Chinese International Education Major

Chinese International Education was one major of distinctive features set up to adapt to Chinese international promotion strategy and the increasingly frequent international exchanges. It specializes in cultivating faculties who could teach Chinese as a second language domestically as well as professionals engaged in international cultural exchanges. Our university set up the TCSL major in 2003 (renamed as International Chinese Education major in 2013), being one of the earliest universities setting up this major in Jiangsu Province. It’s also one of the characteristic professionalisms of our university. At present, there are 20 professional teachers, including 4 professors, 13 associate professors and 3 lecturers graduating from Peking University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Wuhan University, East China Normal University and other famous universities in China. Teachers under 50 are all PhD or PhD candidates. The employment rate and level of graduates remain high and this major once attained good grades and rewards in the provincial appraisal of employment rates of the same majors organized by the Department of Education of Jiangsu province. A large number of students were admitted into national institutions of high learning such as Peking University, Nanjing University, Nankai University, Wuhan University, Shanghai International Studies University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Beijing Language and Culture University, Communication University of China, etc and several students went to famous foreign universities like those in USA, European countries and Australia for further study while some students who were appointed by the National Office of Chinese promotion engaged in Chinese teaching and the promotion of Chinese cultural activities in different corners of the world. Taking advantage of our university’s strong economic management background, this major focuses on cultivating students with good Chinese andEnglish abilities, especially the abilities to communicate in English, certain expertise on pedagogy and economic management as well ability to teach Chinese as a foreign language and the capability to spread Chinese culture worldwide.
